Γ-convergence for Nonlocal Phase Transitions

چکیده
We discuss the Γ-convergence, under the appropriate scaling, of the energy functional ‖u‖Hs(Ω) + ∫ Ω W (u) dx, with s ∈ (0, 1), where ‖u‖Hs(Ω) denotes the total contribution from Ω in the Hs norm of u, and W is a double-well potential. When s ∈ [1/2, 1), we show that the energy Γ-converges to the classical minimal surface functional – while, when s ∈ (0, 1/2), it is easy to see that the functional Γ-converges to the nonlocal minimal surface functional.

Young Measures in a Nonlocal Phase Transition Problem
A nonlocal variational problem modelling phase transitions is studied in the framework of Young measures. The existence of global minimisers among functions with internal layers on an infinite tube is proved by combining a weak convergence result for Young measures and the principle of concentration-compactness. The regularity of such global minimisers is discussed, and the nonlocal variational...

متن کاملA Multi-phase Transition Model for Dislocations with Interfacial Microstructure
We study, by means of Γ-convergence, the asymptotic behavior of a variational model for dislocations moving on a slip plane. The variational problem is a two-dimensional multi-phase transition-type energy given by a nonlocal term and a nonlinear potential which penalizes noninteger values for the components of the phase. In the limit we obtain an anisotropic sharp interfaces model. The relevant...
متن کاملLocalization of nonlocal gradients in various topologies
In this paper, we study nonlocal gradients and their relationship to classical gradients. As the nonlocality vanishes we demonstrate the convergence of nonlocal gradients to their local analogue for Sobolev and BV functions. As a consequence of these localizations we give new characterizations of the Sobolev and BV spaces that are in the same spirit of Bourgain, Brezis, and Mironsecu’s 2001 cha...
متن کاملOn the Phase Diagram for Microphase Separation of Diblock Copolymers: An Approach via a Nonlocal Cahn--Hilliard Functional
We consider analytical and numerical aspects of the phase diagram for microphase separation of diblock copolymers. Our approach is variational and is based upon a density functional theory which entails minimization of a nonlocal Cahn–Hilliard functional. Based upon two parameters which characterize the phase diagram, we give a preliminary analysis of the phase plane. That is, we divide the pla...
